Drum Ambition To Welcome Mike Dolbear To San Diego
Drum Ambition welcomes top UK Educator Mike Dolbear to San Diego in October, as part of a program of Masterclasses and Workshops for students of our bricks and mortar teaching business, San Diego Drum Lessons , as well as the San Diego drum community at large. Both Drum Ambition and SDDL are proud to be Official Mike Dolbear Affiliated Drum Schools, of which Drum Ambition is currently the only Approved Online Platform. Mike Dolbear is best known as one of the UK’s top drum educators, and is the driving force behind the hugely successful community website, Mike Dolbear.com . Rising to prominence through the late 1990’s, this website has built a massive global following of drummers of all ages and levels, with the latest feature being a highly entertaining and insightful web show. Now into it’s second season, the Mike Dolbear Web Show has video interviews with some of the world’s top drummers, including Thomas Lang, Gregg Bissonette, Mark Schulman, Virgil Donati and Geoff Dugmore to name just a few. When the organizers of the 2012 London Olympics found themselves needing 1000 drummers to play a choreographed piece for the Opening Ceremony, Mike was the man entrusted with the responsibility. He went on to coordinate drumming showpieces for the European Champions League Final (The largest European soccer tournament at club level), and was personally selected by movie score Composer Hans Zimmer to work on his London production of “Hans Zimmer Revealed”. Mike will be presenting two Masterclasses in San Diego; the first on Friday 7th October at 7pm , and the second on Saturday 8th October at 10am . Both classes will be held at the Drum Ambition and San Diego Drum Lessons home base; Studio West . If you are interested in booking a place on one of the Masterclasses, please email firstname.lastname@example.org . The ticket price for this event is $100, for a two hour Masterclass . On the afternoon of Saturday 8th October, we will also be running two separate workshops (1pm / 3pm) for any drummers and nondrummers alike who would like to participate in our “Olympic Drumming” workshop, where Mike will talk you through the process of choreographing the performers, culminating in a group performance of the drum parts used in the Opening Ceremony. This handson event will be fun for all ages, and is open to drummers and nondrummers alike. For more details, email email@example.com . The ticket price for this event is $20 for a one hour experience. If you do not live in San Diego and are not able to attend the events, look out for some video highlights and interviews on Drum Ambition in October. These events are presented in partnership with our friends at Yamaha Drums, Vic Firth, Zildjian and Evans Drumheads. ©2018 Vic Firth Company
Vic Firth Welcomes Benny Greb to their Growing Artist Family!
Benny Greb’s artistic expression on the drums is unmistakable. He is a “drummer’s drummer” in the truest sense – pushing the envelope of what is possible with his technical ability, musicality and inimitable style. In his continuing quest to break new ground, Benny has brought his immense talent to Vic Firth in search of The Perfect Pair™. Joe Testa, Director of Artist Relations for Vic Firth Company, has known Benny professionally and personally for many years. “It is always refreshing and inspiring when an artist can stand out as a beacon of light in a very noisy and flash-driven world. Benny’s taste, artistry and approach to the instrument remind us what musicality is all about. We couldn’t be more honored to have him playing Vic and officially joining the family.” Benny was recently recognized by the Deutsche Phono-Akademie for his outstanding musical achievements with an Echo Award for “Instrumentalist of the Year”. In addition to his resume as a performer, composer and bandleader, Benny is also a very talented and passionate educator. He shares his approach to the drums in his award-winning educational products “The Language of Drumming”, “The Art and Science of Groove” and his worldwide drum camps “The Benny Greb Master Sessions”. “We are a company of percussionists, so whenever we get the chance to work with an artist and educator such as Benny, it’s a real treat for every one of us,” states Neil Larrivee, Director of Education and Product Development. “We look forward to some exciting collaborations!” ©2018 Vic Firth Company
Team Vic Firth Reaches their $50,000 goal!
Vic Firth passed away last summer at age 85 from pancreatic cancer. In his honor, eight current and former Vic Firth employees have joined together to take on the 2016 Pan-Mass Challenge as Team Vic Firth! Established in 1980, the Pan-Mass Challenge raises more money than any other athletic fundraising event in the country. One hundred percent of all raised proceeds are donated to adult and pediatric cancer care and research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Thank you to all who have supported us! It’s not to late to give if you would like to contribute to this very worthy cause! All donations made online will be acknowledged with an emailed tax receipt. Vic Firth was the principal timpanist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra for 46 years. A performer by craft and an entrepreneur at heart, his pursuit of musicality lead to a lifetime of accomplishments both on and off the stage. As a performer he was known for his incredible musicianship, elegance and impeccable timing. When he couldn’t find drumsticks that met his discerning requirements, Vic began making his own. Established in 1963, the Vic Firth Company is today the world’s largest and leading manufacturer of drumsticks and mallets. Vic passed away last summer at age 85 from pancreatic cancer. Our PMC team – organized by Vic’s daughter, Tracy – is made up of co-workers from the company. We are inspired to ride because Vic touched each of our lives in profound ways. He was persistent above all else and expected nothing less of those around him. He challenged us, believed in us, and always wished us “great success”. We are honored to ride as Team Vic Firth in the 2016 Pan Mass Challenge! We’ll be spending the spring and summer training, and on August 6th and 7th we will make the 163 mile journey from Wellesley to Provincetown. We thank you for your support! ©2018 Vic Firth Company
Team Vic Firth Takes On the Pan-Mass Challenge
163 miles, 2 days. A combination of current and former Vic Firth employees have joined together to take on the 2016 Pan-Mass Challenge as Team Vic Firth. In July of 2015, Everett “Vic” Firth passed away at the age of 85 from Pancreatic Cancer. When Vic passed, members of the Vic Firth team not only lost their founder but a close friend and mentor as well. Organized by Tracy Firth, Vic’s daughter, Team Vic Firth has committed to biking from Wellesley, MA to Provincetown, MA, a 163-mile journey that will take the team 2 days to complete. Established in 1980, the Pan-Mass Challenge raises more money than any other athletic fundraising event in the country. The 37th Pan-Mass Challenge will run through forty-six towns in Massachusetts and take place on August 6th and 7th, from three different starting locations in Bourne, Wellesley, and Sturbridge. The challenge will conclude after participants cross one of the five finish lines located in Foxboro, Wellesley, Bourne, and two locations in Provincetown. One hundred percent of all raised proceeds are donated to adult and pediatric cancer care and research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through the Jimmy Fund. Team Vic Firth will be riding in honor of Vic Firth. The team’s goal is to raise and donate $50,000 for this event. ©2018 Vic Firth Company
